Freaked out by the Muppet Stamps

I recently got a letter from a friend with a postage stamp on it that freaked me out. Turns out it's one of the Jim Henson and the Muppets commemorative stamps recently released by the US Postal Service, featuring the Sam the Eagle muppet bursting out of a faux-paper wrapper (it's supposedly designed so that the character looks like he's bursting out of the envelope to which the stamp is affixed) - second row left in the pane of ten as seen in the image below:

But if you don't know that, and you only see the Sam the Eagle stamp by itself (and that was not one of Muppet characters I happened to remember), it instead looks like some bizarre stern-looking überpatriotic eagle-puppet holding a US flag, with an outline of Iraq behind him:

Like I said, pretty freaky.
